Is a promotion always the right step forward?


I recently spoke with a candidate who was looking for a new opportunity because he had been promoted to CTO, pretty much against his own will.


He wanted to stay on the technical part and wanted nothing to do with operations or management.


Sometimes we forget that not all of us are wired the same way.


What could be a promotion to someone, might be considered as the wrong step for someone else.


As managers, this is our challenge. To understand what drives people and to adapt to everyone individually.
