Thinking of becoming an IT freelancer in Belgium? Ask yourself these 5 questions

If I were an employee thinking of becoming an IT consultant/freelancer in Belgium, I would ask myself the following questions:

1. Do I have the required experience, trainings and certifications to compete with other consultants?

2. Am I familiar with daily rates on the market for someone with my credentials? And, am I ready to justify my daily rate/range to clients?

3. Do I have my priorities clear? What do I care for the most, the content of the job, remote work, how long is the commute, my daily rate, etc?

4. Am I familiar with what it will take to start my independent status/company in Belgium, and what will change for me compared to being an employee?

5. And, most importantly, am I ready to start my own consulting business?

Many forget this final point: when becoming a contractor, you're not just an IT professional anymore, you're a businessman as well! 👨‍⚖️👩‍⚖️
